Handover

Handover :- 

Transferring of a call or data session in dedicated mode from one cell to another cell called handover.

                              In cellular telecommunication the term handover or hand off refers to the process of transferring an ongoing call or data session from one channel connected to the core network to another channel.

                         In satellite communication it is the process of transferring satellite control responsibility from one earth station to another without loss or interruption of service.

Types of handover

  1. INTER CELL HANDOVER:-  Handover between one cell to another cell(same sector or another opposite sector)
  2. INTRA CELL HANDOVER:- Handover in the same cell, when any one make a call with or without moving or standing.
  3. INTER BSC HANDOVER:- One BSC have one LAC(location area control) , inter BSC handover after handover between one cell to another cell of different BSC, LAC should be changed.
  4. INTRA BSC HANDOVER:- Handover in the same BSC ,so LAC should not be changed during intra BSC handover.
